Girl, 10, accidently hanged herself to death as she danced to Lady Gaga

A schoolgirl Megan Williams, 10, accidentally hanged herself with a dressing gown cord in a tragic accident as she danced round her bedroom listening to her favourite music.

She was dancing to Lady Gaga songs when she put the cord around her neck. The cord, which was tied to a bunk bed, tightened as she danced around and strangled her to death.

The alarm was raised when her 15-year old brother ran downstairs to their mother Lisa saying: 'Megan's hanged herself.'

A coroner said the accident graphically illustrated the dangers of children playing around with cords.

Mrs Williams tried to revive her daughter using tips she had seen on television but the schoolgirl died later in hospital.

She fought back tears as she relieved last May's tragedy at the inquest in Manchester.  Megan - described as a 'little Princess' - and her two sisters had just returned from school and went upstairs to play in her bedroom.

Woman Survives 200ft Fall

A Chinese woman survived falling from the 18th floor of a block of flats after landing on a bush and bouncing into a snowdrift.

Ou, 26, of Beijing, was hanging out washing on her balcony early one morning when she slipped and fell, reports the Beijing Times.

Doctors say she only survived the estimated 200ft (61m) fall because it was broken by the bush, the snow and her padded jacket.

Ou was found lying in 5ins of snow by a man who was out walking his dog and who raised the alarm.

Amazed doctors at Peking University Third Hospital treated her for multiple fractures but say she will survive.

Prof Zhang says she would have been falling at more than 60mph by the time she hit the bush.

"It would have been devastating if she had hit the ground direct. Thanks to the bush, the snow and her jacket, her fall was cushioned," he said.

Ou shares a rented flat with two former classmates who were still asleep in their rooms when police knocked on their door.

They told officers that the balcony was only 3ft high and that Ou would stand on a chair to hang out her washing as the electrical clothes hanger was broken.

Ms He said: "We warned her many times to be careful but never really expected anything like this would happen."

Another similar case reported by The Sun on 4 Jan 2009.

A woman who plunged 200ft off notorious suicide spot Beachy Head and survived was recovering in hospital last night.

Coastguards were scrambled after being alerted by a sightseer who had seen the woman near the edge of the 530ft sheer headland.

A lifeboat, search-and-rescue helicopter and cliff team were sent to the spot in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

But the unnamed woman was found suffering just a broken leg. It is not known if the woman, in her forties, had leapt from the edge or had fallen.

Liz Spiers, spokeswoman for South East Coast Ambulance Service, said: "We did get a call to attend a woman in her 40s who had fallen approximately 200ft and sustained a fractured leg.

"She was taken by Coastguard helicopter to Eastbourne Hospital."

A spokesman for Dorset Coastguard said: "We recovered a woman from Beachy Head after being alerted by chaplains who patrol the area.

"It has not been confirmed if the fall was an accident or deliberate."

Another survivor from 200ft fall, reported by Belfast Telegraph , 17 November 2009

A woman survived after being thrown off a 200ft bridge by car thieves in South Africa. Kavisha Seevnarain was carjacked and forced at gunpoint to go to cash machines to take out money.

The 26-year-old was then thrown off the bridge south of Durban early on Saturday. She suffered seven broken ribs and a fractured pelvis from the fall and was spotted by a passer-by.

Metal nut left in girl's spine during surgery

A girl's intention to return to normal life after a car accident last year stunted when doctors confirmed a 0.5cm nut embedded near her spine, thus may become worse if not immediately removed.

Victims claim that it caused due to negligent attitude of a doctors perform during spine surgery with metal implants using nuts and bolts last year to treat injuries from road accidents a year ago in a famous private hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A worried victim known as Khai Tan Yien, 29, an interior designer, said "I am disappointed with the negligence and irresponsibility of the doctor in treating my injury."

"After the surgery, the orthopaedic surgeon informed me that a nut had accidentally fallen into the operated area, very close to my spine where the metal implant was placed," she said.

"However, the surgeon assured me that the nut is not harmful and can be removed together with the fixture of the metal implant a year later without complications," she said, showing her x-rays and CT scan to reporters.

In October, a day before Tan’s scheduled surgery to remove the metal implant, the surgeon claimed that the fallen nut, which has shifted from its original position, could not be removed as it is located very close to a blood vessel.

Only the metal implant was removed while the fallen nut remained in around her spine. "The doctor said there was nothing he could do and claimed that it would not cause me any problem.

"But I'm worried if the nut may shift around and cause complications," she said. Tan also claimed that she had sought a second opinion from an orthopaedic surgeon in another private hospital earlier this month, who advised her to undergo surgery as the location of the nut might be harmful.

Her surgery is scheduled for today.  Department head Datuk Michael Chong said he would bring the matter up with the Health Minister and asked for all doctors to be more careful.

"We will have to wait for the result of the operation first," he said.

Tiger Woods hurt in car crash outside his house

The top golfer of the world, Eldrick Tont 'Tiger' Woods or famously known as Tiger Woods has been treated in hospital after being hurt in a car accident outside his home on Friday in Florida.

Woods, 33, crashed his 2009 Cadillac SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) in Isleworth near Orlando in the early hours.

It happened after he pulled out of his driveway at 2:25am (local time), authorities said. The accident was not alcohol-related, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Woods, 33, started driving along the road when his car struck a fire hydrant and then hit a tree. He then was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee following the incident.

Early reports said the star had been seriously injured in the crash. But later it emerged he had only suffered cuts to his face and was released from hospital after treatment.

A joint statement from the hospital and Woods' office said: "He was admitted, treated and released in good condition" after being in a 'minor' car crash.

The FHP said the crash was still under investigation, and charges were pending. But it added that the crash was not alcohol-related.

The airbags in the car did not deploy during the accident because he was travelling so slowly, police said.  Airbags typically do not open if a vehicle is travelling at less than 33mph.

Thieves steal circus van and lion in it

Thieves in western German city of Wuppertal stole a circus truck - without realising there was a lion asleep in the back.

They abandoned the vehicle after crashing into a road sign in the western city of Wuppertal, reports the BBC.

According to Wuppertal police spokeswoman Claudia Otto, Circus Probst filed a stolen vehicle report and explained that their five-year-old carnivore “Caesar” was in the truck and likely getting hungry and thirsty.

“At same time an anonymous report came in around 2 am that a truck had crashed into a traffic sign and the driver had fled,” Otto said.

Police later had the truck towed away to a depot - unaware that the five-year-old lion called Caesar was inside.

Caesar appeared unhurt when a lion tamer arrived to reclaim him after Circus Probst had reported the theft.

The thieves got away and may have been unaware of Caesar's presence, say officers.

A circus spokesman, Laurens Thoen, told German media that there was no indication on the truck about its dangerous cargo. The animal had been dozing in the back of the truck when it was stolen, and was by now probably looking for food and water.

Caesar is reported to be "fine" and is due to perform again with the circus in Krefeld.
