Ex-Miss Argentina died for a firmer behind

Former Miss Argentina, 38, has died from complications after undergoing cosmetic surgery to get firmer buttocks.

Solange Magnano, a mother of twins who won the crown in 1994, died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition and undergoing a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.

Close friend Roberto Piazza said the procedure involved injections and the liquid “went to her lungs and brain.”

"This woman who had everything is dead because she wanted to have a slightly firmer behind," he said.

Gluteoplasty has grown in popularity recently as women attempt to replicate the curvy shapes of music and film stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Sandra Bullock. According to a survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, J-Lo's rear is rated number one by plastic surgeons’ patients seeking to remake their buttocks.

About 50,000 plastic surgery procedures were performed in Argentina in 2008, a 60 per cent increase over 2003, with a growing number of foreigners seeking inexpensive cosmetic enhancements accounting for much of the increase.

Magnano’s burial Monday was shown on Argentine television. Dr. Gonzalo Cortes y Tristan said she arrived at his hospital with an acute respiratory deficiency. Her condition deteriorated until she suffered the embolism.
